Do You Know Your Real Superpower?
Each of us is unique in the world.
At the core of our existence is a potent energy. It goes by many names (e.g., consciousness, inner light, core essence, vital force, divine spark). Most importantly: this energy is conscious.
Our consciousness is exceptional because it has both awareness and agency – the capacity to act.
Some of us use it well and some poorly. We may open our awareness to broad experiences or limit it to things that are immediate, comfortable, self-serving. We may act thoughtfully or reflexively.
Regardless, our inner light, our deepest consciousness, allows us to form our identity and engage with the world around us.
When cultivated well, our light guides us towards personal growth, success, and positive relationships. When faced with obstacles, this light - our conscious energy - still persists. But it may manifest in distorted ways as it tries to shine through adversity.
To promote its healthy development, we must begin with feeling its presence as our core energy.
Discovering this deeper self requires stillness and self-reflection – activities apart from our daily round. Yet only by turning inward can we feel our core essence – the energy of our very being. THIS is your real Superpower and the seed of your personal dignity.
Life is valuable, not just because we can fog a mirror, but because we have consciousness.
Take this forward by trying this meditation (as often as you’d like):
Make time today for 15 minutes of quiet. You are unique and special and deserving of this time. Close the door. Turn off electronics. Get comfortable. Close your eyes.
Try to quiet your thoughts and allow your mind to drop inside, seeking the deepest part of you – your conscious core essence. [If you are new to this, your busy mind will likely distract you. That is A-OK. Whenever you notice the distraction, just come back to your intent to connect with yourself.]
Whether you feel your core essence for just a few seconds or much longer, greet it with acceptance. This. Is. You.
Return from your reflection gradually – gently. Then ask yourself what this inner Self felt like to you. Can you feel its aliveness? Can you sense its power? Do you recognize its dignity – that it is worthy of your love and respect?
