Consciousness Is Your Real Superpower
And… one of the awesome qualities of human consciousness is that it is self-aware.
Whether we understand this mystery or not, the day a baby recognizes itself in the mirror is truly profound! The moment we know that “This is me - I am - I see myself” should be celebrated. It validates that our consciousness can see itself, that our sense of Identity has been born, and self-awareness will continue to evolve over time.
Of course, our experiences will shape us further.
And we retain memories of experiences, as well as the thoughts and feelings they bring. From this collage of experience and memory, our awareness crafts an Identity for itself – a sense of Who I Am – that broadens, deepens, and solidifies as we grow. That is why a thousand babies evolve into a thousand very distinct adults.
Awareness has an amazing 360-degree capacity – it can focus inside, outside, and all around.
Because we direct most of our awareness externally, we are more aware of what is going on around us than inside of us. Our business, or busy-ness, distracts us from internal reflection so we lose touch with our core essence – consciousness itself. Yet our consciousness houses our self-awareness which enables us to form our Identity and the resulting actions we take.
Consciousness itself is the real superpower in our lives.
Think about the power of your consciousness and how you use its awareness. What comprises your Identity? For a few minutes, stand your adult self in front of a mirror and experience what your young self discovered: “This is me – I am – I see myself.”
While doing this, ask yourself the following:
How would you describe your Identity now?
What are the many things you like about yourself?
What is most important to you?
What are you really good at?
What is your “growing edge”?
Most of us feel good about who we are. We value our unique selves and feel worthy. In this way, our Identity is the anchor for our sense of Personal Dignity.
